About Homeyra Lalavi
Homeyra Lalavi is an AHPRA-registered psychologist and the founder of AwareCare Psychology, providing therapy for adults in Sydney and online across Australia.
Her work is grounded in a trauma-informed and integrative approach, with a focus on creating a therapeutic space that feels thoughtful, supportive, and responsive to each individual’s experiences, needs, and goals.
Clinical Experience
The approach is trauma-informed, meaning therapy is delivered with an awareness of how past experiences can shape emotional regulation, identity, attachment patterns, and current relationships and relational patterns. Safety, pacing, and nervous system regulation are prioritised within the therapeutic process.
While AwareCare Psychology supports a broad range of concerns, the practice has a particular clinical interest in trauma and its long-term psychological and relational impact.

A Thoughtful and Collaborative Therapeutic Approach
AwareCare Psychology is grounded in warmth, curiosity, and respect. The therapeutic space is designed to support clients in feeling safe, heard, and understood without judgment, creating space for openness, reflection, and exploration. Experiences are explored at a pace that feels right for each person, supporting personal growth and meaningful change. Therapy is approached as a collaborative process. Rather than positioning the psychologist as the “expert” on a client’s life, the work focuses on understanding experiences more deeply and identifying meaningful and sustainable ways forward.
Evidence-Based Therapy
AwareCare Psychology takes an integrative and trauma-informed approach, drawing from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic approaches, and other contemporary psychological approaches.
Therapy is always tailored to the individual, recognising that each person’s experiences, history, and goals are unique.
Alongside symptom relief, therapy also focuses on fostering deeper self-understanding, greater insight into emotional patterns, and long-term resilience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
No. Therapy sessions can be accessed privately without a referral. Eligible individuals with a Mental Health Care Plan may also access Medicare rebates.
Do you offer online therapy sessions?
Yes. Telehealth appointments are available Australia-wide through a secure online platform, in addition to in-person sessions in Sydney.
How long are therapy sessions?
Standard therapy sessions are approximately 50 minutes in duration.
How do I book an appointment?
Appointments can be requested through the contact form, email, or phone enquiry.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session provides an opportunity to discuss current concerns, personal experiences, and what may have led you to seek support at this stage of your life. It is also a space to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the therapeutic process.
What if I feel nervous about starting therapy?
Feeling uncertain or nervous about beginning therapy is a very common experience. Many individuals begin therapy without fully knowing what to expect or how to explain what they are feeling. Therapy can provide a space to gradually explore these experiences at a pace that feels manageable and comfortable for you.
Do I need to know exactly what is wrong before starting therapy?
No. Individuals seek therapy for many different reasons, and it is not necessary to have a clear explanation, diagnosis, or specific issue identified before reaching out for support.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on the individual, their goals, and the type of support they are seeking. Some individuals attend therapy short-term, while others may benefit from longer-term therapeutic support.
Do you provide Victims Services counselling?
Yes. Counselling support is available for eligible victims of crime through Victims Services NSW.
Are sessions confidential?
Psychological sessions are confidential, with some legal and ethical limitations relating to safety and risk, which can be discussed further during the initial appointment process.
What approaches do you use in therapy?
Homeyra works from a trauma-informed and integrative therapeutic approach, drawing from a range of evidence-informed modalities depending on the individual’s needs and therapeutic goals.
Can I attend therapy if I have never seen a psychologist before?
Yes. Many individuals attending therapy may be doing so for the first time. Therapy is approached collaboratively and at a pace that feels comfortable for the individual.
How often are sessions usually held?
Session frequency can vary depending on the individual and their needs. Some individuals attend weekly sessions, while others may prefer fortnightly or less frequent appointments.
What happens after I submit the contact form?
You will be contacted regarding appointment availability, suitability, and the next steps for arranging an appointment.
What if I am experiencing financial difficulties?
If finances are a concern, you are welcome to discuss this during the enquiry process. Depending on individual circumstances and availability, different support pathways or referral options may be explored where possible.
Do you provide couples or family therapy?
AwareCare Psychology currently provides individual therapy for adults and does not currently offer couples or family therapy sessions.
